The 2000-2001 Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship
Buchanan and Company is proud to announce the 2000-2001 recipients of the Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established upon Jim's death in 1993 by his family, friends and business associates. It is funded by income from an endowment in the Kansas State University Foundation. That endowment has now grown to well over $100,000. Including this year's recipients, a total of $29,300 has been distributed to 22 Kansas State University scholars.
Jim and his wife, Teresa actively participated in establishing the criteria for the scholarship. Those criteria include enrollment in Agriculture at Kansas State University, graduation from a small Kansas high school, participation in 4-H, FFA and athletics, and demonstrated leadership potential. Jim and Teresa's sons, Ben and Will will become eligible when they reach college age.
Ashley Dunbar graduated as valedictorian from Central Heights High School in Richmond, Kansas. She participated in Girls State and the Hugh O'Brian Youth Seminar, which emphasizes free enterprise and capitalism. She has been active in 4-H and FFA as well as a number of other church and school activities. At Kansas State, Ashley is majoring in Food Science. | |
Kasey Eickman grew up on a farm near Chester, Nebraska, and graduated from Belleville High School. In addition to FFA and 4-H, she was active in forensics and musical groups, and is a member of the National Honor Society. At Kansas State University, she is majoring in Agribusiness. | |
Lucinda Goosen is a Kansas State Sophomore majoring in Animal Science/Pre-veterinary Medicine and minoring in Spanish. She is a member of the Clovia 4-H Scholarship House, the Dairy Science Club, the Pre-Vet Club, and is a K-State Multicultural Ambassador. She comes from Gossel, Kansas. | |
Orrin Holle comes from Oberlin, Kansas. He was the FFA Northwest District Star Farmer, the 2000 State Star Farmer, and is currently serving as Kansas FFA Sentinel. In addition, he has participated in a variety of other leadership activities. At Kansas State, Orrin is a Freshman in Agricultural Economics. |
