Doug grew up around cattle feeding operations, first in southeast Kansas and later in north central Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Animal Science. Upon graduation, he joined Cattle Fax, a cattle marketing information service in Denver, where he was promoted to Senior Feedlot Market Analyst. In 1980, he moved to Bartlett Grain Company in Kansas City where he was risk manager of their cattle feeding operation in Texas. In 1982, Doug joined Buchanan
& Company where he established Maverick Marketing Service, a
professional risk management advisory service for commercial
feedyards and investor feeders. Doug is President of Buchanan
& Company, and a member of KARL, Inc.

Carrie comes from a small farming and cattle operation near Berryton, Kansas, where they raise purebred Simmental and Polled Hereford Cattle and no-till crops. Carrie was very active in 4-H, FFA, and the American and Kansas Junior Simmental Associations throughout high school and college. She is Buchanan & Company’s office manager, receptionist and telephone voice. In May, 2005, Carrie became a licensed commodity broker.
