The 2010-2011 Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship
Buchanan and Company is proud to announce the 2010-2011 recipients of the Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established upon Jim's death in 1993 by his family, friends and business associates. It is funded by income from a permanent endowment in the Kansas State University Foundation. That endowment has now grown to well over $100,000. Including this year's recipients, 67 scholarships have been granted, totaling $85,055. Criteria include, but are not limited to, enrollment in Agriculture at Kansas State University, graduation from a small Kansas high school, participation in 4-H, FFA and athletics, and demonstration of leadership potential. This plaque is displayed at KSU in Waters Hall, room 137. |
Morgan Halderson grew up on a family farm near Delphos, Kansas and graduated as valedictorian from Minneapolis High School. She participated in numerous athletic, church and academic activities. Morgan is a Kansas Honors Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. At Kansas State she is majoring in Agricultural Economics. |

Katy Nuss grew up on a cattle operation south of Dorrance, KS and graduated at the top of her class from Wilson High School. She was an active 4-H member for 11 years. In FFA, she operated a beef enterprise and participated in the state meats contest in 2010. At K-State, she is a freshman in Animal Science (Pre-vet option) and has received a KSU Leadership scholarship. |

Ryan Jones is a freshman at Kansas State, majoring in Milling Science and Management with a minor in Agriculture Business. He grew up in Marion, Kansas and attended Marion High School where he participated in cross-country, track, and golf. He advanced to state competition in all three sports, and to national competition in cross-country his senior year. He also participated in FFA, 4-H, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Key Club, and the Catholic Youth Organization. |

Kassie Curran graduated from Girard High School, but attended school in Sedan, Kansas through her junior year. She is the 2010-2011 Kansas FFA Vice President and is also active in KSU Collegiate Cattlewomen, Ag Ambassadors, and St. Isidore’s Catholic Church. With both parents graduating from K-State, she was born a Wildcat! Kassie is a sophomore majoring in Food Science and Industry, emphasizing meat science. She is a repeat Buchanan scholarship recipient from last year. |

Cassandra Kniebel comes from a ranch south of Junction City and is a sophomore at Kansas State University majoring in Animal Science, Bioscience/Biotechnology option. In addition to participating in her sorority’s activities, Cassandra is involved in Block and Bridle, the College of Agriculture Council, and the National Junior Red Angus Association. Cassandra is a repeat Buchanan scholarship recipient from last year. |
