The 2011-2012 Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship
Buchanan and Company is proud to announce the 2011-2012 recipients of the Jim Buchanan Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established upon Jim's death in 1993 by his family, friends and business associates. It is funded by income from a permanent endowment in the Kansas State University Foundation. That endowment has now grown to well over $100,000. Including this year's recipients, 69 scholarships have been granted, totaling $88,055. Criteria include, but are not limited to, enrollment in Agriculture at Kansas State University, graduation from a small Kansas high school, participation in 4-H, FFA and athletics, and demonstration of leadership potential. This plaque is displayed at KSU in Waters Hall, room 137. |
Cole Svoboda comes from Ramona, Kansas. He graduated from Centre High School near Lost Springs, where he participated in football, basketball, track and FFA. An excellent student, Cole was a member of the National Honor Society. He grew up hunting, fishing and trapping, and those activities grew into a passion that led him to major in Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management |

Sarah Kratzer grew up on a farm near Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School. She is a Freshman in Animal Science & Industry at K-State and wants to become a veterinarian. She was a 12-year 4-H member and was involved in a number of 4-H leadership activities. Sarah was also a member of the Catholic Youth Organization, FFA, and the American Quarter Horse Association. She participated in volleyball, forensics, and concert and marching bands, as well as a variety of journalism, photographic, web design and livestock judging activities. |
